Oral Polypodium Leucotomos Extract decreases Ultraviolet-induced damage of human skin

Clinical abstract from Journal of American Academy of Dermatology: Oral Polypodium Leucotomos Extract decreases Ultraviolet-induced damage of human skin

“… Exposure of human skin to sunlight containing UV radiation A and B, leads to deleterious effects on skin such as sunburn, immune suppression, pigmentary changes, photoaging , and skin cancer. Protection of skin by an oral photoprotective agent would have substantial benefits. A total of 9 healthy participants were exposed to varying doses of artificial UV radiation without and after oral administration of Polypodium Leucotomos. At 24 hours after exposure the redness was assessed from Polypodium Leucotomos treated and untreated skin. A significant decrease in redness was found in Polypodium Leucotomos treated skin. Histologically, in Polypodium Leucotomos treated biopsy specimens showed less sunburn cells…”
